A restaurant channel comparison

The order channel and the delivery service are separate choices.

Use this comparison to decide where customers should order and who should get the meal to them. Deliveroo’s marketplace and its separate Express offering should not be treated as the same product.

See it with your restaurant in mind

Italian marketplace sources and an international Express source are distinguished below. Local service availability needs confirmation.

The comparison uses Italian marketplace and reporting sources. Deliveroo Express is a separate product described by an international source; its presence here does not confirm Italian availability or a GastroGrowth connection.

Where GastroGrowth fits

A restaurant seeking a direct ordering channel with connected kitchen work, customer records and its own-driver operation.

Where this provider fits

A restaurant evaluating marketplace discovery or a specifically contracted Deliveroo delivery arrangement; Express requires its own availability and setup review.

Begin at the kitchen pass.

A meal is ready and somebody needs to take responsibility for it. That moment exposes two different decisions: how the order reached the restaurant, and how it reaches the customer. You can want a direct ordering website without wanting to run a delivery fleet. Equally, you may already have drivers and want the direct channel to fit their work. Set out those requirements before comparing platforms, because a website, a marketplace listing and a fulfilment service answer different questions.

Name the product you are evaluating.

The sourced table distinguishes the provider products and the limits of what we have established. Use that distinction when asking for a quote or demonstration.

Marketplace ordering

Assess the customer discovery and ordering journey offered by the marketplace in your area. Ask what the restaurant is responsible for, which delivery arrangement applies and what information is available to staff. A familiar company name is not enough to establish the details of your offer.

A restaurant-owned channel

Assess where the ordering page lives, how the menu is maintained and how customers reach it. GastroGrowth supports a restaurant-branded direct website connected to restaurant order and customer records. Promoting that channel and delivering a good service remain work for the restaurant.

Delivery for an existing channel

If your need is external fulfilment, evaluate that service separately. Confirm local coverage, supported order sources, handoff requirements and the commercial agreement. The existence of a provider API does not establish an available GastroGrowth integration; none is promised here for Deliveroo.

If you have drivers, inspect the whole handoff.

GastroGrowth’s delivery proposition is an own-driver operation. The restaurant provides the team, and the product supports the relevant order, assignment and completion journey. Current progress depends on the Driver workflow, device permissions and connectivity. Check those conditions with the actual devices before relying on them.

Before the order leaves

Who checks that the meal is complete and ready? How does the driver identify the assigned order? These responsibilities should be clear even when several meals are ready together.

While it is travelling

Who handles a customer question or a connection problem? Decide what the team can see, what they should communicate and how they recover when progress is unavailable.

At completion

Follow the supported completion process. Do not treat a prepared order as delivered, and do not assume that a moving location marker proves a successful handoff.

Review GastroGrowth delivery scope

If you need a supplied fleet, make that a first question.

A restaurant without its own delivery capacity should not infer that direct-ordering software includes riders. GastroGrowth does not supply a courier fleet or promise a Deliveroo fulfilment connection. A different provider’s service may address that need, subject to local availability and integration. You can also evaluate a direct pickup journey if it fits the business. The important decision is a service your restaurant can actually fulfil, not a delivery button added to a page.

Distinguish useful reporting from a portable contact list.

“Customer data” can refer to several different things. Ask to see the specific output you need.

Operational reports

Sales totals, product performance and customer-type reports help answer what happened in a channel. They are not the same as contact details or marketing permissions. It would be misleading to assume that a marketplace provides no useful insight simply because you are considering a direct channel.

Restaurant relationship records

In GastroGrowth, inspect the local customer record and its order history. Ask which fields are visible to the restaurant and which choices remain with the guest. Imported contacts and first-party loyalty should be explained through the actual workflow, not a broad promise to own every piece of information.

Portability and messaging

Ask both providers about the export and communication action you intend to perform. GastroGrowth does not currently offer a restaurant database export or complete self-service bulk CSV migration. Automated campaign delivery is also outside the general website promise. Those limits belong in the buying decision.

Read the customer-database guide

Run the comparison against a busy-service scenario.

Use the same sample meal and service window when reviewing different systems. Focus on what the customer and team must do.

  1. 01

    Follow the incoming order

Locate the order notification and identify the person who accepts it. If your restaurant keeps marketplace and direct channels, map both queues. GastroGrowth does not automatically consolidate Deliveroo orders, so show the team the real arrangement rather than a hypothetical unified screen.

  2. 02

    Check the preparation decision

Review how the team sees the meal, options and timing. Decide what happens when an item is unavailable or the kitchen is busy. Test configured printing or kitchen displays with the intended equipment so that the next step is visible to the person doing the work.

  3. 03

    Check the handoff and recovery

Ask what changes when a collection is late, a driver loses connectivity or an order needs attention after payment. Confirm the supported process and responsible party for each channel. The service plan should remain understandable when a customer needs help.

Compare like-for-like costs and responsibilities.

Do not apply a headline percentage from one product or country to another. Request current written terms for the actual arrangement.

QuestionWhat to include
What brings the order?Marketplace participation, your own website promotion and any optional paid acquisition.
What processes the order?Software, setup, payment processing and the work required to maintain the menu.
What fulfils the order?Own-driver costs or the separately contracted fulfilment service.
Who supports an exception? The support boundary for payment, food preparation, delivery and customer contact.
What changes when volume grows? The agreed pricing basis, operational capacity and any optional services.

Choose a first step that answers the real question.

You can keep a useful marketplace route while assessing a different direct journey. A limited test should produce an operating decision, not just another subscription.

Need a direct pickup channel?

Walk through a restaurant-branded order, the verified account step and collection from the counter. Check whether regulars can find the link and whether staff can identify the order without extra explanation.

Need to coordinate existing drivers?

Review the actual GastroGrowth assignment and Driver workflow on the intended devices. Do not expect automatic dispatch, optimised multi-stop runs or a universal live-traffic ETA. Explain any essential logistics requirement during the demo.

Need external delivery capacity?

Confirm a provider and supported connection before promising delivery from your direct site. Keep the channel and fulfilment choices separate in your notes so the restaurant does not discover a missing responsibility on launch day.

Bring the handoff you want to improve.

Show us where an order reaches your team, where the kitchen prepares it and who takes it to the customer. We can demonstrate the current GastroGrowth workflow and make the setup questions explicit. The goal is a channel your restaurant can confidently operate alongside the services you choose to keep.

See it with your restaurant in mind

A few things you might be wondering.

Is Deliveroo only a marketplace?

No. The centrally sourced product facts distinguish the marketplace from Express, a separate own-channel fulfilment offering. Check the relevant service and market.

Can GastroGrowth book Deliveroo riders?

A Deliveroo rider or Express integration is not currently promised. GastroGrowth’s described delivery workflow is for a restaurant-operated team.

Does a direct channel automatically provide more customer information?

Compare the exact records, reports, permitted uses and export actions. Broad yes/no claims about customer ownership are not enough.
